This is an image of the Parrot Nebula aka the Seagull Nebula (IC2177) in Monoceros. I captured it with narrowband filters to show the interaction of sulfur, hydrogen, and oxygen in this region of the sky.

Object: The Seagull Nebula, aka IC 2177, spreads its wings with a span of over 100 light-years and resembles a seagull in flight. This cloud of gas and dust is located about 3700 light-years away from Earth. The Seagull Nebula lies just on the border between the constellations of Monoceros (The Unicorn) and Canis Major (The Great Dog) and is close to Sirius, the brightest star in the night sky.

Most of the nebulosity visible on the bottom of this image is part of the Seagull's Wings (catalogued as IC 2177 or Sh2-296) and the Seagull's Head is catalogued as NGC 2327 or Sh2-292. IC 2177 je još poznat i pod oznakama LBN 1027, , Sh2-292, Be star. IC 2177 is an HII complex lying on the border of Monoceros and Canis Major. Covering over 3 degrees of sky, this beautiful nebula lies in one of the farthest arms of our Milky Way galaxy and is about 100 light years across. The designation IC 2177 refers to the nebulosity spread across the wings of the Seagull.

It is a roughly circular HII region centred on the Be star HD53367. This nebula was discovered by Welsh amateur astronomer Isaac Roberts and was described by him as, "pretty bright, extremely large, irregularly round, very diffuse." IC 2177 would not normally be a challenging target, but at my imaging site, its highest elevation is only 37 degrees. Despite the "soft" seeing at this elevation, as well as my image scale of only 3.26 arcsec/pixel, there is still a good amount of detail that can be observed in this image.
